PEER PRESSURE AT GEN Z

Peer pressure among Gen Z can appear in various ways due to the hyperconnected world they live in. Social media, for instance, may shape their behaviors, opinions and interests. Gen Z may experiences these aspects below:

• Appearance and Image: Alongside with rapid growth of social media came beauty standards or fashions trends created by KOL on platforms such as Instagram, TikTok and Snapchat, which imperceptibly place pressure for teenagers to fit in those norms.

• Activities and Hobbies: Pressure to follow those up-to-date hobbies or certain activities, which are popular among their peers, whether it’s gaming, sports, or other interests.

While peer pressure isn't new, the digital age has amplified its impact. However, not all peer influence is negative. It can also inspire positive behaviours, encourage creativity, and foster support networks.
