HOW TO OVERCOME ?
In order not to let ourselves controlled by the peer pressure, it is necessary for people to do the following solutions:
Having an encouraged conversation from trusted adults
Direct exchange to parents, teachers, school administrators is necessary since they could have experiences in solving those situations relevant to peer pressure. Therefore, we can refer to their advice and overcome those obstacles. For instance, they could advise us to carefully analyse a situation whether it is beneficial or not so we could make the right decisions.
- Use the “delay” option when the situation is more complicated and pressured
As in some cases peer pressures may be hard for us to avoid, we can not only ask to let ourselves have time to think but also prevent us from danger.
In
particular, when friends ask if we could hang out to get some beer.
Instead of giving direct answers we probably say “I’m busy now, I will
get back to you later”. Therefore, it will be more comfortable and
convenient for us to deal with those situations.
-Always be mindful to ourselves
When dealing with a difficult situation, people can ask themselves so that they can identify the good and bad facts about the situation. Thus, individuals can figure out the best solution to finish the situation.
Imagine you're at a party with friends, and there's peer pressure to engage in activities that you're not comfortable with, such as excessive drinking or participating in risky behaviour. Take a moment to check in with yourself. How do you feel about the situation? Those activities will worsen our health with drawbacks like being crazy, lung cancer, hallucination. From that situation, without mindfulness to themselves, individuals may face terrible peer pressures.
