ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF PEER PRESSURE
There are benefits and drawbacks that we have while we are facing the peer pressure.
- Advantages:
+ Academic improvement:
Studying together, exchanging knowledge, and participating in group projects can all help with academic performance. Playing with friends who are dedicated to their studies, for instance, may encourage you to put in more effort yourself in order to achieve high marks, which will ultimately help you in academic performances and in your future careers.

+ Adopting healthy habits
Peer pressure can help you learn some good habits from people around you. Peer-led initiatives, health-related challenges, and educational campaigns can improve the positive impact of peer influence on adopting and sustaining healthy habits. Participating in group sports or fitness activities with peers, for example, might encourage a healthy lifestyle and good well-being.

+ Trying new experiences
Shared interests, collaborative planning, and an adventurous attitude within a peer group can increase the overall impact of good peer influence. For example, without friends to extend sleepover invitations, encourage you to try out for trekking, or convince you to go on your first date, your life would be a lot less exciting. Sharing these new things with others can help you overcome your fears and make the experience more comfortable, memorable.

- Disadvantages
+ Lose identity
Peer pressure often involves conforming to the norms and expectations of a social group. People may take on hobbies, values, or behaviours that are not truly representative of their own identities in an effort to fit in. Your friends could not be real friends if, for instance, they want you to modify your outfit to fit in with them. True friends won't be bothered about how you look or try to force you to change anything that is not you.

+ Increase the risk of a mental health issue
Fear of rejection or exclusion can be a powerful drive for individuals to comply with peer standards. This anxiety may cause a reluctance to share personal thoughts or preferences. Even though it's much more comforting to be accepted than rejected, the long term effects of rejection will make you feel stressed.
Furthermore, chronic peer pressure can exacerbate feelings of hopelessness and dissatisfaction and even cause depression by making one feel as though they are falling short of group expectations.

+ Distractions from academics
Peer pressure can cause us to shift our focus away from our priorities because we are engaged in actions we would not normally conduct or are distracted by thoughts about peer pressure. For example, if a peer group places little value on education, it may influence others to follow suit, which could result in poor planning and unproductive study techniques.
Moreover, peer pressure to skip class or participate in extracurricular activities might cause attendance to drop. Regularly missing classes can lead to gaps in knowledge and a negative impact on academic performance.
